Cost of a funeral

The cost of funerals varies considerably between crematoria and between churches and places of burial.  Below are 2018 average prices for a service at a local crematorium, or a funeral service at a local church followed by burial.

Cremation

Funeral Directors services, crematorium fees, doctors' fees, Church Minister's  / Celebrant's fees.

Direct Cremation (No Ceremony) 

£1390

This is a straigtforward cremation for those who do not wish to have a funeral service. No funeral ceremony takes place at the crematorium and no family or mourners attend. This includes -

Funeral Director's Services, crematorium fees, doctors' fees, scattering of ashes in the crematorium garden of remembrance or collection of cremated remains by yourself or nominated person from the crematorium. 

Burial

£2954 

Funeral Director's services, church fees, minster's fees and preparation of plot and marker.

Direct Burial (No Ceremony - Cemetery Only)

£1580

This is a straightforward burial for those who do not wish to have a funeral service. No funeral ceremony takes place and no family or mourners attend. This can only take place in a council owned cemetery and not a churchyard. This includes - 

Funeral Director's Services, Preparation of plot and temporary grave marker, all council administration fees.

Please note, that with burials in local cemeteries you are expected to place a perminant marker or memorial on the grave after 12 months. This fee is not included in the price given above but can be added as an additional extra.
 

Funeral Plans

A funeral plan allows you to protect your friends and family from the financial and emotional burden of a arranging a funeral at a difficult time. By paying for a plan at todays prices they are also protected from increasing costs.
